Third Ear Caravan is a blend of rock n soul style music that speaks to the heart of the everyday person. Kiki Przewlocki's vocals, lyrics and rhythm guitar playing began in the storytelling world of folk in Boston's coffee houses, earth festivals, eateries and college campuses. Her reflective, poetic lyrics speak of the extraordinary within the ordinary. The themes of relationships, beauty, heartache and wonder are woven through the tapesty of Third Ear Caravan's songs. Calvin Hall's bass lines range from his country Georgia and Texas roots to his worldly blues tours with Carolyn Wonderland, Richard Cagle and the Voodoo Choir and the Hightailers. Drummer Kelley Wright has worked with Dan Workman and Robbie Parish of Sugar Hill Studios, metal rockers Rotten Seed and a host of bands and styles that spanned from Lousiana to Singapore. This trio's past contributes to the present and future music of Third Ear Caravan that's been labeled "a cross between Bonnie Raitt, early Jefferson Airplane and R.E.M." Producer JW Wind states, "Listening to this band is like being washed in positive energy."
"I was just a little girl in the 60s but longed to be older so I could be part of the peaceful, folk/rock music scene. I thought I was born in the wrong era!" laughs Kiki. "I wanted to sing songs with meaning and purpose and groove. The music my older silblings were listening to from Motown to the Doors to the Beatles stayed with me all these years. I didn't set out to do it , but those genres naturally show up in my music. I'm a bit of a late bloomer! I played solo folkie gigs for years but have just recently stepped out to expand my musical horizons with a great rhythm section, our own PA equipment, and the absolute thrill of performing live with enthusiastic stage energy."
From Houston venues like Dan Electros to Jimmy's Ice House, Bohemeos, W.Alabama Ice House, and appearances at Rudyard's, the Continental Club, Cactus Records and Last Concert Cafe to the listening rooms of East Texas, Third Ear Caravan has been embraced by audiences. Last summer the band toured the high desert of New Mexico taking the stage @ Cowgirl's, la Tienda and the famed Santa Fe Bandstand . They are planning a return trip this July.
Third Ear Caravan was fortunate enough to work with Andy Bradley of Sugar Hill Studios in Houston to self produce an EP entitled, Once upon a Dream Night and are currently recording at Cagle Studios. They've appeared live on KPFT's Wide Open Spaces show and the Deadbeat radio hour. "It's the positive energy of the band that makes this 1+1+1+ trio sound like a band with seventeen members," states DJ Sandy of KPFT. The use of 'Third Ear' in their name, which means, listening with the heart,' is indicative of what's important." Their latest project is in full bloom at Montrose Records with Richard Cagle and will include some live performance pieces recorded at a local venue.
"We're looking forward to branching out to other venues, working on new material and perfecting the old material," offers Kelley. "We're ready, willing and able for any opportunity to play our music and touch the hearts of the crowd."
